Worship
Sunday Morning Worship: 8:00 & 10:30 a.m.
Our Sunday Worship is blended. We use a variety of liturgies (orders of service) that include historical and more contemporary styles. We sing new songs and old hymns. In all of our services you will hear readings from God’s Word and messages based on that Word of God that speak to your life.
Wednesday evening services are held at 7:00 p.m. during Advent and Lent.
A nursery is provided for children under 4 years old during Sunday School and the 10:30 a.m. Worship service.
Worship Opportunities
In our worship services on September 19 we will publicly welcome into membership those who have joined our congregation this year after attending membership classes or by transfer from another LCMS congregation. There will be a potluck luncheon after the late service to welcome these newest members of Grace in a less formal atmosphere and give all our members the chance to introduce themselves. Please plan to join us.
On August 29 at both worship services the Youth and adults who attended ”We Believe”, the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans, will be sharing their experiences with us. You won’t want to miss this!
Want some encouragement? Some suggestions for getting your life in order? How do others do it? Maybe this sermon series will be just the thing you need. During the month of August, the theme for Pastor Mattil’s messages in worship is “Being With Jesus.”
Remember the Old Fashioned Church Picnics? The ones where everyone played games and shared great food and visited and thanked God for the fellowship we have in Jesus? That’s our plan for Sunday, May 30th. On that day, we will have only one worship service, and that will be at 10:00 a.m. (There will be no Sunday School or Bible Class on that day.) We’ll have the tent up and have our worship outdoors, so please dress in casual clothes. We’ll plan to eat around noon. The Men of Grace will grill burgers and brats and hot dogs. We ask everyone to bring side dishes and desserts to share. Before and after the meal there will be games and activities for all ages. Some of you may want to sit under the tent and play dominoes. Others will want to be a part of the balloon toss or egg relay race. We just want you all to be there to enjoy the day with us.
Our observance of Holy Week begins on March 28 with Palm Sunday, remembering the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem surrounded by the cries of the people: “Hosanna to the Son of David.” It is our custom at Grace to hold Confirmation on Palm Sunday. Six of our young members have completed two years of instruction in the Christian faith and will make profession of their faith for themselves through this rite on Sunday morning at the late service. We invite you to worship with us and rejoice with these young members on this special day in their lives.
Join us for worship on April 1 at 7:00 p.m. as we remember “the night in which He was betrayed.” Jesus was celebrating and remembering the Passover with His disciples when He gave us a new meal of remembrance and a way for us to share in His sacrifice for the sins of all people. The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be a part of this service of remembrance and prepare us for the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Our worship remembering the sacrifice of Jesus will begin at 7:00 p.m. on April 2. It will be a service of Tenebrae (darkness) that is somber in nature and reminds us, through the reading of the Passion account, or everything Jesus willingly suffered in order to pay for the sins of all people.
Our celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus includes a morning full of activities. We will have a Sunrise Service at 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot facing the rising sun if the weather cooperates. If the weather is bad, we will hold the service in the sanctuary. At 8:00 a.m., our youth group will serve a pancake breakfast. A free will offering will help those attending the National Youth Gathering in July. At 9:00 a.m. the Youth Group will sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt for those in 6th grade and younger. Our Sunday School and Bible Class will begin at 9:15 a.m. A second worship service celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord will begin at 10:30 a.m. We invite everyone to join us for this high point for the Church Year!
Saturday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m. the Concert Choir and Troubadours of Martin Luther High School, Greendale, Wisconsin, will be performing a concert of sacred music here at Grace. (They will also sing in the Sunday worship on March 21.) These two groups, under the direction of Timothy S. Franz, will appear as part of a nine-day concert tour which will take them to Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. The 40-member Concert Choir portion will include compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Kuhnau, Carl Schalk, Kirby Shaw, and many others. The Troubadours, a group of twenty-one select singers specializing in contemporary Christian music, will perform in the middle of the program.
There is no cost for this concert. A free-will offering will be received to help the students defray the cost of the tour.
The Sermon Series on Sundays during the season of Lent will be “Lord, Teach us to Pray.” You will be encouraged to examine and reinvigorate your personal prayer life as we study the prayer Jesus taught us.
